Validity and utility of the present state examination in assessing neurosis: Empirical findings and critical considerations

Abstract

The validity and clinical utility of the Present State Examination was investigated in 70 neurotic patients referred for inpatient behavioural treatment. We conclude that the instrument is reasonably valid and can be helpful in everyday clinical practice. Suggestions for refinement of the PSE are given.
