Abstract
School gardens are center of daily activities and provide a useful venue for students’ learning.Garden-based learning (GBL) as an instructional strategy and a teaching tool play a significant role to bring the formal and informal learning environments and has been applied different educational level.Taking into account curriculum changes and educational tendency, teachers are expected to use multiple types of teaching teachniques in different learning environments. Unfortunately, educational research notes that classes in teacher education programmes still predominantly focus on formal, in-class settings with limited outdoor education and teachers are not prepared (or perceive they are not prepared) for taking students outside the classrooms.This study aims to made familiar preservice science teacher with the educational use of the garden, develop their teaching skills and give them confidence to teach on informal learning environments.This study was conducted with three preservice science teachers. Their participation was voluntary and they decided the part of the campus garden for their work. Teacher candidates planned and organized a teaching demonstration in the campus garden. In the end, they discussed the use of garden in biology – science teaching with their classmates.
