Uncertainty in a GIS: a test for quantifying interpretation output

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

Students who had attended a short training course in image interpretation for the recognition of natural land units were asked to delineate natural land units (specified in a legend) on a TM image. The land unit boundaries were subsequently digitized. Using this dataset, we could (1) evaluate the spatial distribution of the uncertainty, (2) propose a measure of quantification of the uncertainty, and (3) attempt to interpret the fuzziness of the boundaries in terms of unit adjacency. -from Author
