Abstract
Poetry written by prisoners-of-war is rarely discussed in Dutch studies. This article deals with the wartime efforts of Flemish minor poet Marcel Breyne who was captured near Namur in August 1914 and who spent the rest of the war in several German POW-camps where he befriended his captors and, becoming an ardent activist, turned against the country he had been fighting for. The article traces his
POW-output, focusing on the way his national(ist) allegiances change and how his interest in and dealings with Afrikaner culture reinforces his Flemish nationalist beliefs.
