Abstract

In this paper we present a review of the treatment of rhythmic movement disorder (RMD), a sleeping disorder that occurs mainly in children. Four types of RMD can be distinguished: head–banging and head–rocking (iactatio capitis nocturna) and body–rocking and body-rolling (iactatio corporis nocturna). We discuss the case of a 42–year old female teacher, who suffers from iactatio corporis nocturna and restless legs. The body–rolling behaviour disappeared almost completely after behaviour therapy, which consisted of selfdash;momitoring, hypnosis and self–control procedures.
