Abstract

Thrasymachos of Chalcedon was a sophist and orator. His main area of interest was rhetoric, and he was especially known for his emphasis on the importance of the appeal to emotions. We also have fragments of two orations, the first probably linked to the post‐411 constitutional debate in Athens, the second referring to the political situation in Thessaly. In Plato's Republic he defends the view of justice as the interest of the stronger.
