Abstract

The combination of gender-based discrimination and inequality with other forms of discrimination can result in specific forms of violence against women, impact women's experiences of violence and their subsequent needs. The intersectional reading of the Istanbul Convention offered by this chapter provides an introduction of the main notions and approaches to intersectionality and their implications for gender-based violence against women, as well as overview of the approaches taken by the Expert Group and by states parties to comply with the obligation to implement the Convention without discrimination. Based on these findings, an ‘intersectional model’ of implementation is proposed.
