Abstract

The paper examines the concept of semiperiphery and its dynamic role in the world-system. Its usefulness becomes more evident, especially when it is used as a heuristic device to analyse both the general and specific characteristics of dynamic, intermediate states between core and periphery. The study discusses the active role of the semiphery in the context of data from cross-cultural societies.
