Abstract
Taalachterstand, taalstoornis of niet genoeg woorden kennen om je verhaal te vertellen? De groeiende meertaligheid in onze maatschappij vraagt om nieuwe technieken om de taalkennis van kinderen te testen en om normale en afwijkende taalontwikkeling van elkaar te onderscheiden. In deze sessie nodigen we iedereen uit om drie nieuwe testen uit te proberen. Het Coloring Book is een nieuwe test om het taalbegrip van kinderen die net begonnen zijn met Nederlands leren te meten (vluchtelingen, tweedetaalleerders, enz.). De Quasi-Universele Nonwoord Herhaal taak test hoe goed je onzinwoorden kan herhalen (zibalita, bamudi). Op die manier meten we hoe goed je spraakklanken kan onthouden. Omdat we onzinwoorden gebruiken, hebben eentalige kinderen geen voorsprong op meertalige kinderen. Bij het Meertalige Assessment Instrument voor Narratieven, tenslotte, beantwoord je vragen over een verhaaltje en mag je zelf ook een verhaaltje vertellen. Dit is een ideale manier om vertelvaardigheden van meertalige kinderen in verschillende talen te vergelijken, omdat er verschillende verhaaltjes zijn ontwikkeld van een gelijke moeilijkheidsgraad. Kinderen, leerkrachten en iedereen die met (meertalige) kinderen werkt, is welkom om de testen uit te proberen!
Language delay, language disorder or simply not having enough words to tell? The increasing multilinguality of our society requires new techniques to assess children's language(s) competence and to discriminate typical from atypical language development. In this session we encourage the visitors to try out three new tests. The Coloring Book is a new test to measure language comprehension in children that have just started learning Dutch (refugees, second language learners etc.). The Quasi-Universal Nonword Repetition task measures how well you are able to repeat nonsense words (zibalita, bamudi). In this way we measure how well you can recall speech sounds. Because nonsense words are used, this test is not biased towards monolingual speakers. Finally, as part of the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives you answer questions about a short story and are invited to tell a story yourself. This test is an ideal way to compare a multilingual child's narrative abilities in more languages, because all the stories you hear have the same complexity. Children, teachers and professionals are most welcome to try these tests!
