Abstract

Many milk quality programs are focusing on somatic cell counts or other milk quality parameters in their communication strategies with dairy farmers. However, it is critical to acknowledge that farms are complex systems, regardless of their size. Biological, economic, and social/behavioral aspects jointly impact the ultimate efficiency of the farm. To successfully address such a complex system a comprehensive, coordinated and fully integrated systems approach is essential.
