Abstract

The transition from secondary to higher education requires students to significantly adapt their study skills. Study Effectively offers a scientifically grounded approach to support students during this shift. The book helps them learn more independently and purposefully, process larger amounts of study material more efficiently, and answer more complex exam questions. It covers a broad range of relevant topics, including motivation, concentration, study planning, procrastination, academic reading, collaboration, and exam preparation. The fifth revised edition has been updated in both content and style to reflect the realities of the digital and post-COVID era. Increased attention is given to the transition phase into higher education, self-regulation, memory strategies, attention management, and tools such as Cornell Notes, flashcards, and generative AI. Furthermore, the book explores digital learning tools, diverse assessment methods, collaborative skills, and interdisciplinary education. Study Effectively combines theory with practical tools, including checklists, examples, and exercises, and is designed for students in universities of applied sciences and research universities.
