Abstract

Instead of dealing with mathematical modeling as an important goal of mathematics education and discussing how this competency can be learned and taught, this paper is addressing the issue of modeling from a different perspective. The focus is on how in mathematics education models can be used to bring the students to a higher level of mathematical understanding. An example of such a didactical use of models is given from a longitudinal teaching trajectory on percentage.
