Abstract
Shakespeare may have visited Utrecht in 1586, along with a troupe of travelling players although this is not likely; there is a sketch of one of the theatres of Shakespeare's time by a Utrecht antiquarian, Johannes de Witt, surviving in a copy by his friend Arnout van Buchell now in Utrecht University Library
