Quality according to Language Service Providers: The Case of Post-edited Machine Translation

Abstract

In this paper, we will report on an experiment conducted among LSPs from the Netherlands and Flanders, in which we investigated how various degrees of post-editing affected the perceived quality and usability of target texts. We incorporated 4 PE versions of 2 different source texts and canvassed responses through a questionnaire with measurement scales covering content, language use, text logic and terminology, style and usability (5 items per variable). The results of this study tie in with earlier experimental findings in PE research, as they show that in the case of PE, more is not always better.
