Abstract
The ambition of the Dutch Association of Psychologists for 2021 is to contribute to ‘a psychologically resilient society’. Then, what does ‘psychologically resilient’ mean? In my doctoral thesis entitled Psychological resilience at work: a labyrinth worth navigating, I investigated the concept of psychological resilience: how it is understood, and if and how it can be enhanced. In this article, I summarize the main findings of my thesis: I define psychological resilience as a dynamic process, introduce the ‘Psychological Immunity- Psychological Elasticity model’ to explain this process, and describe five resilience-building approaches that can be derived from this model. In the concluding section, I present four challenges that psychologists face when they intend to contribute to a psychologically resilient society
