Polar Meteorology

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterAcademic

Abstract

The chapter describes meteorology in the polar regions, covering radiative transfer, atmospheric circulation, surface energy balance, near-surface effects such as temperature inversion and katabatic winds, and the controls of precipitation. Meteorological factors behind the surface mass balance of the Antarctic Ice Sheet and Greenland Ice Sheet are also considered.
