Optimizing knowledge sharing in learning networks through peer tutoring

Abstract

Learning Networks (LNs) are particular online social networks to support non-formal learning. One purpose of non-formal learners to participate in LNs is to share knowledge with others. Knowledge sharing in LNs becomes more difficult because more effort needs to be invested in the collaboration process and the knowledge sharing process itself. Therefore, this could induce cognitive overload, especially when learners deal with complex learning actions. We propose peer tutoring as a structure to support the collaborative knowledge sharing process and to optimize cognitive load.
