Abstract
Cognitive assessment and treatment could potentially benefit from embedding Mixed Reality (MR) technology, as these
applications usually are dynamic and interactive in nature and as such resemble daily life situation. Multiple studies indicated
that it is feasible and potentially useful to embed MR during (inpatient) rehabilitation, but less is known about the early phase
post-stroke: admission to a stroke unit in a hospital. The overarching aim of the study was to investigate feasibility, usability, and
user experience of an Augmented Reality (AR) Serious Game for visuospatial neglect treatment (i.e. visual scan training), during
admission to the stroke unit. Most patients could not be included in the study, due to post-stroke fatigue and other comorbidity.
One single patient could be included for game play, yet this person was too fatigued afterwards to participate in the short
interview. We therefore cautiously conclude that MR is not so suitable for patients with visuospatial neglect in the acute phase
post-stroke onset.
