Abstract
This note has two parts, the second building on the first, though the first is independent of the second. I first argue that in Ethica Eudemia 1245a31 we should retain the MSS reading τὰ ἐφ ̓ ἑνός. I then offer an interpretation of this phrase that makes sense of the context and of Aristotle’s project as a whole.
