Abstract

Mastitis is an important disease of dairy cattle. The disease has been around for a long time. Still, in the last decades, major changes in the understanding of the epidemiology and pathobiology of the disease have occurred. In this paper, the major changes in the understanding of bovine mastitis that have taken place in the last decade, are discussed. These major changes include molecular diagnostics, mathematical modeling, immune respons, infection and inflammation in the transition period, mastitis in heifers and infection and inflammation caused by coagulase negative Staphylococci.
