    Abstract

On a dairy farm, welfare is a main issue. An increase in welfare is correlated with a higher milk yield (Van Eerdenburg et al., 2013). Measuring welfare in an overall, objective, way has been the subject of discussion for a long period of time and still is. The Welfare Quality welfare assessment protocol® (WQ) was published in 2009 and should solve this issue. However, the protocol is quite intensive and it takes a long time (up to a day) to assess a farm. Several other protocols haven been designed and published that do not require a full day for a single farm and these have been compared with WQ.
