Abstract

In the 20-minute video documentary historian Leen Breure and Sarah Dellmann explain where today's clichés of the Netherlands originate from. “Molens Tulpen Klompen en Kaas - ruim 100 jaar clichés van Nederland” (in Dutch language) investigates the history of Dutch cultural icons and their function in commerce, tourism, fine arts and media. The video is based on Sarah Dellmann's PhD thesis Images of Dutchness that is forhtcoming with Amsterdam University Press.
