Abstract

Martyrdom is a shared body practice in Judaism and Christianity alike (Boyarin), but the Rabbis also develop a counter discourse and resilience towards marttrdom as based upon two values: emodiment of Torah, and the Biblical value of physical life as a reward for Torah observance.
