Abstract
The companion to the CEFR includes three scales for understanding creative and literary texts. This article gives a critical discussion of the indicators and illustrates the use of the scales in concrete contexts using the example of the ERASMUS+ project “Developing Teaching Competencies for Extensive Reading Programmes” (LEELU), in which the CEFR criteria are analysed using the example of the cata-logue of books compiled in the project. The discussion concludes that the CEFR can be used for self-evaluation when reading literary texts and can support the selection of texts in spite of the fact that the CEFR does not include the categories reading experience and literary competence.
