Abstract
The Ordonnances Generalles d’Amour by Étienne Pasquier are
analyzed here through the scope of the term “jeu sérieux” (serious game).
These parodic ordinances were initially staged for a playful performance and
proclamation of these joyful summonses in front of the royal court. The game
and the serious intention of this performance had a certain impact on the
public, an impact that was continued for individual readers in the printed
editions of the Ordonnances.
