Abstract

In the 18th century many musicians and composers had international careers. It is possible to make a classification of composers' careers by distinguishing among "national careers", "careers in two countries", "careers with foreign visits" and "travelling careers". Jean-Marie Leclair is an example of a composers "with foreign visits", Pietro Antonio locatelli one with a career in two countries. Other examples of the various career types are discussed as well as the impact of these different career types on the musical life in a certain city or region.
