Abstract
The difference between continuous and discrete variables is discussed. The author argues that in practice all statistical variables are discrete (due to restrictions of the measurement instrument). Only in theory some variables are continuous. The author therefore questions what students in grade 10-11 (pre-college level) need to know about this. The examples for and from national exams are about statistics in practice, hence do not give guidelines for what students should learn.
