    Abstract

Veterinarians are educated to provide preventive health and welfare care, as well as to cure animals. Owners who have companion animals, like cats and dogs, go to the veterinarian for this reason. If the human-companion animal bond is stronger owners are more likely to visit a veterinarian. Research indicates that owners who are attached to their animals will have advantages regarding their own health and wellbeing. Vice versa companion animals that have good quality of life usually become good pets. So when veterinarians in their practice can advise owners how to optimize the welfare of their pet, owners will value these veterinarians, their companion animals will be easier to handle and in that way it will be good for veterinary business.
