Improving revision quality in translator training with translationQ

Abstract

This chapter considers the potential role of technology in trainer-to-trainee revision practices. Although customized technological solutions are still scarce in translator training, trainers and trainees seem likely to benefit from such solutions. It will be argued that benefits can be reaped when procedures are optimized in the revision interface, when feedback quality improves and becomes more consistent across revision tasks, and when the repetitiveness of trainer-to-trainee revision processes is reduced to a minimum. A tool that is claimed to fulfil the promise of higher revision quality and ergonomic quality in trainer-to-trainee revision is translationQ. This tool will be critically reviewed in the second part of the chapter. It will be seen that translationQ allows trainer-revisers to uphold quality standards for trainer-to-trainee revision. However, attempts to improve ergonomic quality by reducing repetitive processes seem to have been less successful.
