Abstract
ENERGY STAR, a voluntary government program administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that offers businesses and consumers a broad range of energy efficiency resources to help save money and protect the environment, has formulated a new ENERGY STAR Guide for the US pulp and paper industry. The Energy Guide focuses primarily on measures that are cost-effective and available for implementation. The Energy Guide presents a brief overview of selected 'emerging energy efficient technologies', defined as those that have recently been developed or commercialized and hold promise for reducing energy use in the US pulp and paper industry. The Energy Guide also includes several appendices that contain useful information for mill energy and water efficiency projects. The Energy Guide can serve as a valuable expert summary of information which will help mill personnel streamline the process of identifying, assessing, and implementing measures for improving the energy and water efficiency of their operations.
