Abstract

The essay examines the taste for oriental objects in Gabriele d'Annunzio's activities as an interior decorator of his own dwellings. It signals and documents that the author's original interest in orientalizing interiors, though always present throughout his life, in his efforts to decorate his Florentine villa 'La Capponcina' in the years between 1898 and 1910 gives way to a different taste that foregrounds sacred objects deriving from the Italian later Middle Ages and Renaissance.
