Abstract
Diamond Open Access is a scholar-led publishing model in which content is made freely accessible to readers, under an open licence, at no cost to authors. In recent years this model has gained increased visibility and popularity as it is seen as an alternative to commercial publishing.
This guide has been written for all journal editors (in the Netherlands and beyond) who find themselves uncomfortable with the hold of commercial publishers over their journals and would like to transition their journal to a Diamond Open Access publication model. It provides an overview of which steps to take while considering the flip to Diamond Open Access, which routes are possible (subscribe to open, university presses, publishing platforms and do-it-yourself publishing) and which are the costs and possibility of funding the journal under the new model.
