The 2O23 `Heads and Tails'workshop at Utrecht University followed on from a 2O22 workshop at the University of Oslo on `How to Research the European Court of Human Rights?'.24 24 The starting point was that there is no one `right'way to study the Court but that it might be useful to initiate a discussion between scholars working in different disciplines and fields on the use of their methods. We thank both universities for supporting these workshops. We also thank all participants to the Utrecht workshop for contributing to the discus-sions, which benefitted both the papers in this special issue as well as further thinking on the topic for all of us. Last but not least, we would like to thank the contributing authors for their articles as well as the General Editors of the European Convention on Human Rights Law Review for making it possible for us to serve as Guest Editors for this special issue.
