Abstract
First and second generation lipid lowering drugs are discussed concerning their mechanism of action effects on lipoproteins, benefits on fatal and nonfatal coronary disease tended effects and therapeutic uses. Recommendations when to prescribe lipid lowering drugs were based on the new Dutch Cholesterol Consensus (1998) of the Centraal Begeleidingsorgaan vour de Intercollegiale Toetsing. Future developments on identification of patients resistant to lipid lowering drugs are mentioned.
