Abstract
The chapter gives an overview of EU norms and instruments and sets the part-time work issue in the wider context of gender equality. It thus assesses not only the Part-Time Word Directive, but also the EU's gender equality programmes and the European Employment Strategy that aims to bring more people into the labour market. Do all these EU instruments support gender equality, also for part-time workers. Or do other goals prevail?
