Abstract
Vanaf de jaren vijftig stond Nederland, mede uit schuldgevoel over de Holocaust, pal achter Israël. Die steun is nooit vanzelfsprekend geweest. Het feit dat de bevolking van Nederlands-Indië grotendeels islamitisch was, hield Nederland lange tijd af van steun voor de zionisten in hun strijd voor een onafhankelijke staat. Sinds de Israëlische annexatie van de Palestijnse gebieden in 1967 is de kritiek op Israël weer gegroeid. Toch betekent dit niet automatisch dat Nederlanders partij zijn gaan kiezen voor de Palestijnse zaak.
