Abstract
The Mardin fatwa by Ibn Taymiyya has long been considered a death warrant for non-muslims. Closer inspections reveals this is all based on a typographical error in the first printed edition of the fatwa (end of 19th c.). The typo is further discussed in the context of the process of making a canon in manuscripts, print and digital culture.
