Abstract
In this article, the gap between close and distant reading methods and research design is discussed to establish if the two could profitably be combined. In the current situation, the use of close and distant reading techniques is not evenly distributed among literary scholars specializing in Dutch literature. A project like Nederlab aims to lower the threshold of technical expertise to overcome the reluctance to adopt distant reading techniques. What possibilities for close reading are opened up by digital technology?
