Cross-national web probing: an overview of its methodology and its use in cross-national studies

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the methodology of web pr College of Arts and Social Sciences obing and of its use in cross‐national studies. To begin with, we present the strengths and weaknesses of the method and additionally draw a brief comparison between cross‐national web probing and cross‐national cognitive interviewing. In terms of implementation, we describe possibilities of access to respondents in different countries and the specifics of the web probing design. For analysis, we outline particularities related to translating and coding of cross‐national probe answers and present a selection of substantive results. To conclude, we present an overview of different applications scenarios throughout the survey life cycle and further research needs.
