Abstract
Cross-currents is a three-year trans-national research project that examines the politics of musical encounter. The CRP investigates the way in which cultural encounters in music have produced various forms of cultural friction, transformation and synthesis. Comparing a range of musical encounters from the 1950s to the present day, Cross-currents explores ways in which music has been assimilated, adapted or rejected in different cultural settings, in order to deepen understandings of identity formation as an ongoing process.
