Collective Reparations in Colombia: a tool for the non-repetition of violations?

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

Considering that the conflict in Colombia finds its origins in the deep socioeconomic inequalities and rural poverty, and that the conflict disproportionality affected rural and poverty-ridden areas, this paper questions whether collective reparations offer a suitable tool to address several of the conflict's roots. In this light, the paper aims to discuss the extent to which collective reparations may be a tool for the Colombian government to fulfill the promise of never again which was explicitly affirmed in the 2016 Peace Agreement; articulated as non-repetition, thereby ensuring sustainable peace.
