Bordering and shattering the stage: mobile audiences as compositional forces

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

This contribution discusses the merits of Claire Bishop's analysis of installation art for immersive theatre and performance. Bishop distinguishes four modalities of spectatorship, based on how spectators are adressed and positioned within installations. In addition, the chapter introduces the notion of 'becoming-spectator', with help of observations derived from Gilles Deleuze and William Kentridge, to describe a spectator's engagement in performance installations.
