Abstract
In the academic debate on the newness of war we see voices that emphasize military robotics and networked forms of organisation as key drivers of what is now coined ‘shadow warfare’. We argue that despite offering important new insights, these ‘newness’ debates seem to overlook how wars are above all produced: wars are made to happen by complex alliances of heterogeneous, yet assembled sets of actors aiming to achieve their objectives.
