Abstract
This paper examines how fringe platforms challenge the dominant logics of platformization by operating through alternative systems of value rather than business models based on the data ecinfrastructure analysis of Gab, we trace its technological and organizational infrastructure to evaluate how it creates and sustains value. Our findings show that Gab’s deplatformization and subhave reinforced a model that diverges from mainstream data economies, relying instead on community-based support grounded in a narrative of contestation. We argue that Gab’s significance or its participation in platform economy, instead it creates value through taking an ideological counter-position within the broader platform ecosystem.
