Global Poverty Interactive (GPI)} gives users the freedom to define poverty as they see fit, and compare their choices with current national and international standards, as well as with the preferences of other contributors from around the world. Utilizing user’s input along with the “cost of basic needs” methodology, we obtain new global poverty estimates. This blend of citizen sourced material and scholarly research will shape GPI as an effective alternative point of reference for global poverty estimates. Presently the only source available is World Bank’s PovcalNet that has been widely criticized for its application of the dollar-a-day methodology. The service will be available via the globalpoverty.world url starting April 2019
