Montreal Protocol ozone award for scientific leadership 2017

Prize: Prize (including medals and awards)

Description

The Velders papers were the foundation that inspired other scientists
to calculate and communicate the interlinkages of ozone with climate
and the importance of phasing out ODSs and phasing-down HFCs.
Articles published by the Velders team in between 2007 and 2015
contributed to improved understanding of the interlinkages between
the Montreal Protocol regulations, ozone depletion and climate
change. They provided the scientific basis for policy discussions
resulting in the 2007 accelerated HCFC phaseout and the 2016 Kigali
Amendment. The Velders papers inspired other scientific papers
relating to an improved understanding of these interlinkages.
