Xinyang Che is an energy system modeler and a PhD candidate in Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. He is in both Energy & Resources group and Environmental Sciences group.
His research focuses on energy system modeling, climate change, and emerging low-carbon technologies. He leverages energy system modeling to integrate diverse generation technologies and energy storage, to study energy system planning and transition pathways under different climate and policy scenarios, aiming to provide policymakers with systematic analyses and new research perspective on addressing climate change.
Currently, he is exploring how climate change (energy drought) affects energy systems and developing climate-resilient and decarbonized energy systems through modeling. This includes applying improved methods for processing climate data, proposing a system-level definition of energy drought under climate change, and assessing the impacts of energy drought on global energy system planning as well as potential adaptation strategies.
