About

Dr. Lourens T. Bloem (PharmD, MSc) is an assistant professor at the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology of the Utrecht Intstitute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University.

He aims to optimise outcomes of medicines in patient care through interdisciplinary research, integrating drug regulatory science (evaluation and improvement of regulatory decision-making), clinical pharmacology (optimal clinical use of medicines), and (pharmaco-)epidemiology ('real-world' effects of medicines). He focuses on innovative medicines for patients with cancers and rare diseases for which unmet medical needs are typically highest. As such, he is involved in several research and infrastructural consortia, including DARE-NL, Oncode Accelerator, and CURE4LIFE.

At Utrecht University, Lourens is a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, the Faculty Open Science Team (Faculty of Science), and the Board of Examiners of the MSc Pharmacy programme.

Furthermore, he chairs the special interest groups Cell and Gene Therapy of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and Advanced Therapies of the Regulatory Science Network Netherlands (RSNN). In addition, he is strategic liaison between ISPE and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), member of the Cellular Therapy & Immunobiology Working Party (CTIWP) of the EBMT (formerly the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation), member of the Multi-stakeholder board of the national cell and gene therapy network of the Netherlands, ATMP-NL, and member of the Committee ATMP of the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board.
