Description
On Thursday, Jan. 25, we organized the afternoon Science Communication under the Magnifying Glass: Collaboration through the Eyes of Scientists, Journalists and Communication Professionals. The purpose of the afternoon was to bring scientists, journalists and communication professionals within the science and earth sciences into conversation with each other, exchange experiences and develop an understanding of each other's position within the process of science communication.
The day began with a dynamic panel discussion between scientist Jorg Massen, journalist Heleen Ekker and communications expert Aschwin Tenfelde. Together, they unraveled a number of case studies and shared moments when science communication was a shot in the dark or just went off course. Navigating the complexities of science communication is no easy task and often involves challenging dilemmas where pragmatic choices do not always match everyone's ideals. An interactive breakout session explored and addressed realistic and common dilemmas within the field to form mutual understanding. We concluded the official part of the day with a plenary session where tips and insights from that dilemma game were shared.
