In interdisciplinary education, students from different academic disciplines learn together. Although interdisciplinary education is becoming increasingly popular, the research into interdisciplinary education is still in its infancy. This dissertation shows that there are twelve possible learning outcomes of interdisciplinary education. Furthermore, the results show that the learning outcomes described in the literature are also achieved in an interdisciplinary minor for medicine and communication and information sciences students. Students’ perspectives on communication changed. Another study shows that to achieve the above-mentioned learning outcomes, it is important to make students aware of the inequalities, implicit biases and differences perceived in status of the different disciplines. Additionally, this dissertation introduces six other principles that are important to develop and implement interdisciplinary education. The results of this dissertation provide guidance for teachers to develop interdisciplinary education in such a way that the potential of interdisciplinary education is actually achieved.
